Ask the Expert

A recommendation for damp steel, finishing a new steel tank with a single coat, and a high-build coating for a wastewater tank interior.

Industrial painting contractors, owners, specifiers and applicators routinely find themselves facing a unique set of challenges that require customized coatings solutions.

More often than not, these challenging coatings projects enable the Sherwin- Williams Industrial Marine group to demonstrate how partnership with a single, solution-oriented coatings supplier that offers the latest in technology and innovation can result in success, no matter how diverse the project.

For example, Lakehead Painting effectively prolonged the life of a gas storage sphere with an advanced Sherwin-Williams polyurea coating system that effectively shrink-wrapped the sphere and its existing insulation. This system is providing a flexible membrane that will endure variables such as condensation and winter weather, and is allowing owners to save the cost of replacing the insulation. (The polyurea was applied over the top of the insulation rather than the steel substrate.)

At the opposite extreme, our HiTemp coatings are applied to a boiler in the Dominican Republic and provide protection for surface steel capable of thermal cycling to 600 degrees F.

Yet another example of uses for our versatile heavy-duty coatings is illustrated by mural artist Eric Henn, using our DTM Acrylic. His photorealistic images adorn a variety of industrial structures throughout the country.

One story of innovation, one of protection, one of aesthetics — all the result of forward-thinking industrial painting professionals partnering with a versatile coatings supplier — and that’s a solid mix.
