The world of heavyduty industrial coatings is a study in opposites.
We often work in tonnage and lots of it.Mile-long bridges, stadium projects and convention center construction require thousands of tons of steel.
Yet the difference between the success and failure of the finishes on these structures can be measured in mere mils.
The bottom line is this: It’s OK to think big in this business. But we can help make sure you don’t overlook the details.
Just ask Shel Harrison, a project manager for Hirschfeld Steel. His company is responsible for some of the most complex steel fabrication in the country at the new Opryland Hotel and Convention Center being built in Grapevine, Texas. Design changes and other details involving project complexities had him in near constant communication with architects and engineers as this project got started.
He had neither the time nor energy to devote much effort to working out paint specs, soliciting bids or other paint-related tasks he’d normally face. Fortunately, he didn’t have to, and Harrison could get back to thinking big.“I was happy to see a Sherwin-Williams singlesource spec on this job.”
Donna Hardin at the North Carolina State University Veterinary Hospital could get back to thinking big after crews installed a new Envirolastic Polyurea floor in a surgery room there, although big for her is a relative term. While certainly very large animals, horses are conventionally measured in pounds, not tons.
In coating terms, this floor project actually was a big deal — more than 250 mils thick in spots, enough to return proper slope in the floor toward drains after a shifting foundation had made cleanup in the room difficult.
Sherwin-WIlliams understands that while your focus may be on tonnage, we can help you keep an eye on millage. That’s the kind of detail that can mean success in your industrial coating project.
