Smart Painting

Steven Oberfeld, President of Paint Stores Group

“Work smarter, not harder.”

Note to whomever said that first: Don't you wish you had a nickel for every time you've been quoted?

In the industrial and marine coating industry, those words carry some real merit. After all, the ability to accurately forecast material needs, estimate labor, specify appropriately for your project and market yourself to your customer base, for example, all precede a successful application, where the true heavy lifting is done. But in this world of high-performance, specialty coatings, application is no matter of menial labor either.

This issue of Coating Solutions — featuring a new Case Sutdies section that sllows more of your project successes to be highlighted — demonstrates that you continue to find new and better ways of providing smart solutions to your customers.

For example, I invite you to read about how coatings play a key role in the new home of baseball's Washington Nationals, which is the first LEED-certified stadium in the United States. Or you can learn about how contractors, engineers and facility owners used a Sherwin-Williams polyurea system to combat the corrosive effects of hydrogen sulfide and preserve the service life of a wastewater treatment plant in Wisconsin. Our coatings similarly provided a solution on two large potable water tanks in Washington state.

Working hard in industrial painting is no guarantee for success, unless working smart is also part of the equation. Let Sherwin-Williams help ensure that the coatings solutions you provide are smart choices for both you and your customer.
